TRANSCRIPT:

I think I have someone trying to scam me on Instagram, like you know, those old guys who get scammed by a beautiful young woman from a different country who falls in love with them on line, kind of thing, but in reverse… let me explain

So there was this guy, normal looking profile, but limited detail and images, he’s a little older then me and he messages me,

Him: Hello how are you doing?

I reply Me: I’m goo thanks, how are you? – standard reply, now I don’t know who he is, but through working in the media all my life, I meet lots of people and I don’t always remember the people who I meet, and also working in media, I am always nice to people who contact me.

He writes: Him: I’m good thanks

and after a few pleasantries he goes on to say.

Him: Well, at the moment I can’t have anything serious due to the nature of my work and the distance barrier, that’s why I want a companion (baby) that will make me feel relaxed on line. It’s just a daddy thing, that has benefits and rewards, INTERESTED?

Me, mea sceptical person, I ask: Me: Is this for real? Why me?

He replies, Him: We seem to be on the same page better, my inly texting app is telegram, it’ll be-palatable and honouring we talk on thereto chat better, just click the link and message me.

RED FLAGS GO OFF! First red flag, the telegram app, second red flag, click a link, 3rd red flag, someone is messaging me, a 41 year-old to be the baby to their daddy – which for those who don’t know is a relationship dynamic where the daddy pays the baby to.. be of service. But usually much more younger and good looking people.

The convo went on for a bit, I refused to join telegram, and debated that, why telegram when he was proving very capable to text on Instagram and after some digging I found out that he is offering 3 grand a week to be his baby! But only if I join telegram, and that’s where the convo has gone stale, cause I know its a scam.

I don’t know, and have never heard of scams being run on telegram, but on a google search there is warming that the Telegram platform allows users to create bot accounts, which scammers use to rapidly target vulnerable legitimate accounts.

A bot known as X-Files can steal passwords, session cookies, login credentials, and credit card details according to Intel 471 research released in July 2022… so I won’t be joining telegram, but damn me if I have shot myself in the foot to earn 3k a week just to chat to a weirdo on text and not have to do anything physical in return.
