TRANSCRIPT:

I believe in climate change, and believe we should be doing something about it, but leave the art alone!

BROADCAST DATE: 27th October 2022

SHOW: #001

RANT TIME! You know, one of the things we love to do here on The Troy Murphy Show, we like to have a good old fashioned rant! And good old fashioned ranting is what I’m about to do right now.

As, for this story, we head to Germany to the Barberini museum in Potsdam, Climate change activists have thrown mashed potatoes at Claude Monet’s ‘Les Meules’ painting before gluing themselves to the floor. The two “Last Generation” campaigners, that’s what they calls themselves, Last Generation, they entered museum in this earlier this week wearing high vis jackets.

In true style of these radial activists, they filmed their destructive behaviour and posted it to Twitter saying: “We make this #Monet the stage and the public the audience.

If it takes a painting – with #MashedPotatoes or #TomatoSoup thrown at it – to make society remember that the fossil fuel course is killing us all: Then we’ll give you #MashedPotatoes on a painting!

Of course this is on the back of activists in the UK who entered the central London gallery on 14 October and hurled tomato soup at a priceless painting by Vincent Van Gogh. After chucking the soup at the painting, one of the protesters then asked the gathered crowd: ‘What is worth more, art or life? Is it worth more than food? ‘More than justice?’

Those activists were named, Phoebe Plummer and Anna Holland who where arrested by London Metropolitan police on charges of criminal damage and aggravated trespass.

Of which the pair were released on bail after their first court hearing on the condition they do not enter galleries or museums and do not have paint or adhesive substances in a public place.

Their trial is set for December 13 at City of London Magistrates’ Court. Here’s the opinion part… I don’t think I have to tell you what I think is worth more in comparison to the lives of these activists…. here’s a hint, it’s the art!

Look, I understand, climate change is a thing, but is attempting to destroy history, culture, priceless artworks in the name of protest as way to get your message across.. no way in hell.

Here’s what happens, art loves, culture lovers, civilised people are turned against these activists and their movements, these antics turn people against the cause!

Who wants to be aligned with a movement that destroys ART! Art and culture is what is meant to unite us as one, art is beauty, art is life, art is creation, art is not destruction, art should not be destroyed in the name of a destructive movement.

It’s hypocritical, this movement is hypocritical, these activist are protesting the destruction of the planet… life… whist destroying art, the life that is the creation of mankind.

You can imagine it, the heavy polluters, wether it be companies or countries, sitting there and they see the news articles and the antic of these “Last Generation” campaigners in Germany and the “Just Stop Oil” protesters in the UK.

I bet, I bet, they’ll all having a change of heart and will stop the damage they’re doing to the planet!

The truth to the reality is the only thing to happen here is that, in order to stop the destruction of beautiful art, Museums, and galleries across the globe are just going to make it harder to see the art we love… to which I say… thanks for that douchebag activists!

Whilst I believe in climate change, and believe we should be doing something about it, I’d protest these activists long before I join a protest moment against climate change because of their abhorrent behaviour.

And to protest against them, I will be following their court cases, and speaking out if the courts are light on their punishments.
