In other news that broke this week Mobile phones will be banned in schools across NSW if Labor wins next year’s state election. Parents are urging the Education Minister to put out a blanket ban, amid claims their children are distracted by devices.
Speaking on radio this week. NSW Shadow Education Minister Prue Car said (AUDIO)
Look, i’m not a parent and I am not a teacher, so I am not experienced enough to comment with conviction.
BUT! Whilst I am a HUGE advocate for doing everything to minimise bullying, especially with the youth, the reliance for government to legislate what we can and can’t do is a slippery slope for setting precedent, precedent for government to believe they should be setting rules for all aspects of our lives, we elect governments to look after the joint, not to dictate to us how we live out lives.
I’m all for education rather than restriction, teach consequence of action not set rules, kids rebel against rules, always, but if warned and they do bad, then it’s on them to live with the guilt or repercussions of their actions.
